purpose: non-addict wives who are discordant with theirhusbands in substance use encounter many problems andexperience considerable stress in their life. in the present study weaimed to investigate the effectiveness of life skills instruction incoping skills of non-addict wives who were discordant with theirhusbands in substance use. materials and method: thirty women who did not use problem-focus coping skills were recruitedfor this purpose. independent t-test was used to dentify differences between the experimental group and the control group in problemfocusedcoping scores after conductinginstructional sessions. findings: results indicated that the experimental group were significantly higher that the control group in the problem-focused coping skills and less in the rest of the dysfunctional coping skills (p< 0.001). discussion: we found that life skills instruction can be effective to improve the coping styles of non-addict wives who were discordant with their husbands in substance use.
